Library block building
The school asked for assistance to build a library block to encourage reading.
Opening in 2000, Jeddah Lower Basic is rapidly growing with a school roll of 1398 pupils. The school has already received funding for furniture, class room blocks and fencing from other organisations. The Head Teacher and PTA approached the School Development Fund to help build a library, as they are currently using a store room which consists of a few shelving. Money donated from the fund will go towards construction materials.
The school wss fortunate enough to have land already reserved for a library block, with the local community contributing to transportation and labour costs. The building of the new library was finsihed in 2011.
We heard in Febraury 2012 that a volunteer from Holland was working with the school for 3 months and will help them get the most out of the library. The headmaster also hopes that they will be able to set up a bank of computers at one end of the building.
